Dental Radiography (24 hrs)

In this unit students will be introduced to radiation physics and biology, the biological effects of radiation, and the components of the dental x-ray unit. Safety and precautions as well as the responsibilities of the dental assistant will be taught. Students will learn techniques for exposing, developing and mounting radiographs as well as learning the process of taking and recording digital images. At the conclusion of this course students will have been taught to:

  • Identify x-ray equipment 
  • Identify landmarks of the face and oral cavity 
  • Practice radiation safety 
  • Identify the criteria for diagnostic quality radiographs 
  • Place and expose a FMX set of radiographs 
  • Mount x-rays for proper diagnosis 
  • Expose digital images 
  • Prepare for AZ mandated radiology exam administered by the
  • Dental Assisting National Board
