Infection Control (12 hrs)

In this unit students will learn and demonstrate an understanding of the correct protocol for disinfection and sterilization in compliance with OSHA standards. Techniques and aids for infection control including, but not limited to rubber dam placement as well as clinical asepsis protocol in treatment areas and equipment. Management of hazardous materials will also be included. At the conclusion of this course students will have been taught to:

  • Explain what blood born and air born transmissions are and how to prevent them 
  • Demonstrate competency in moisture control and isolation using various methods 
  • Be familiar with operating zones of operator and assistant 
  • Place and remove PPE in proper order
  • Process instruments for sterilization 
  • Properly transfer instruments 
  • Set-up and Break down a treatment room using proper protocol 
  • Use HVE properly
